Dr. Edward J. Roman
Dr. Edward J. Roman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973. He earned his D.D.S. degree from Temple University, School of Dentistry in 1977 and opened his practice in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1979.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania, the American Academy of Periodontology, and a past president of the Washington-Greene County Dental Society. Dr. Roman also serves as an adjunct senior professor of periodontics at the West Liberty School of Dental Hygiene in West Virginia.
Born and raised in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Roman has resided in Washington for the last 25 years. He and his wife Gena, a second grade teacher in the Trinity Area School District, have been married for 32 years. They are the parents of two grown children, Elissa and Christopher. He is a past president of the Washington YMCA and has been active in a volunteer capacity with many local service and athletic organizations.
Dr. Roman believes in educating dental patients so they fully understand the treatment they are about to undertake. “With all the technology and new research knowledge available to dental professionals, treatment plans have become more complex. It is our duty to build trust with our patients by fully explaining the value of treatment and its associated obligations such as appointment frequency and costs,” he says. “We built trust and loyalty by performing patients’ dentistry in the manner we described to them and by fulfilling our obligations to them.”
Dr. David N. Vaughan
Dr. Vaughan earned his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his D.M.D. (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) degree from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Vaughan successfully completed a one year advanced education in general dentistry residency at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
He served as a Dental Officer in the United States Army during both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Vaughan was the Senior Dental Officer and Triage Officer for the 21st Combat Support Hospital. After Dr. Vaughan’s completed his duties in the army he returned to his home town in Western Pennsylvania and joined Dr. Roman’s dental practice in July of 2002.
Dr. Vaughan is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Washington Greene County Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
He and his wife Adrienne are natives of Peters Township and are pleased to be raising their two young children--son Alex and daughter Cassidy—in the Washington County area.
Dr. Vaughan’s treatment philosophy is “to treat every patient with compassion and understanding and to make each dental visit as comfortable to the patient as possible.”
Meet Our Team

Hygienists
Denise | Dental Hygienist
Denise is a Registered Dental Hygienist. She has extensive experience
in periodontal care including subgingival scaling and root planing, periodontal
maintenance procedures and soft tissue management and in using the Zoom
whitening system.
Denise earned a B.S. in dental hygiene from West Liberty State College
in West Virginia and has worked with Dr. Roman since 1988. In her free
time she enjoys reading and spending time with her husband Shawn and
children Alexa and Joshua.
Lori | Dental Hygienist
Lori performs prophylaxis on adults and children to remove stain, plaque
and calculus. She educates patients about periodontal disease and how
to treat it; she also takes x-rays, counsels patients about nutrition
and gives them instructions on good oral hygiene. Lori is proficient in
the Zoom whitening sysem and has taken additional training the area of
periodontics. She oversees compliance with OSHA regulations for
the office and has been a member of the practice for fifteen years.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Lori worked in that state
for six months before moving back to Pennsylvania. She enjoys camping,
skiing, and golfing with her husband and two sons.
Assistants

Cynthia | Dental Assistant / Front Office
Cynthia’s duties include four-handed dental assisting as well as taking impressions, making temporaries, placing composite restorations, taking x-rays and working in the lab. She works in the front office as treatment plan coordinator, scheduler and works with insurance and billing.
Cynthia is a graduate of the Douglas School of Business and is a certified Expanded Function Dental Assistant.. She is x-ray and CPR certified. She has been a member of our staff for 24 years. In her free time, Cynthia likes to craft, paint and spend time with her family.
Emily | Dental Assistant
Emily is one of our chairside dental assistants. Emily
is also a Certified Expanded Dental Function Dental Assistant.
Emily earned her certification from the National Dental Assisting Board in 1986, and has completed courses in intraoral radiography, infection control, OSHA regulations. She has earned her CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Emily is proficient in composite restoration placement, temporary fabrication and dental cosmetics. Emily has been a member of the practice for 14 years.
When she’s not working, Emily enjoys spending time
with her family.
Janet Sporka | Dental Assistant
Janet graduated from Jeffeson Community College with a degree in Dental Assisting. Janet is x-ray and CPR certified. She is one of our very talented chairside assistants and assists our doctors in all aspectics of our busy dental practice. Her 17 years of experience make her a wonderful asset to our practice.
Janet enjoys family time, reading and gardening.
Brenda Saunders / Dental Assistant
Brenda is a Certified Expanded Function Dental Assistant. Brenda
believes in making her patients feel as comfortable as possible
and to make their dental experience enjoyable. Brenda
is a graduate of Penn Commercial School and she also attended
Fairmont State College. Brenda has been with our practice
for twelve years.
Brenda had recently acquired her Real Estate License and
is a member of the Washington County Realtor Association. She
enjoys riding motorcycles in her spare time.
Jenifer | Chairside Assistant
Jenifer is one of our chairside assistants. She handles monthly maintenance for our office and ordering supplies.
During her 12 years of assisting, Jennifer has kept up to date with dental advances through many hours of continuing education programs. She’s also certified in x-rays and CPR. Jenifer is proficient in composite restoration placement, temporary crown fabrication, and assisting in endodontic procedures.
Jennifer and her husband enjoy spending time with their
new son and watching motocross and football. She keeps busy
with housework and yardwork.
Front Office
Kacey | Front Office
Kacey a member of our front office staff, keeps busy each day with a variety of tasks: greeting patients and checking them in and out, handling payments and insurance paperwork, answering phones and handling office correspondence.
A 2003 graduate of Penn Commercial, Kacey earned an associates degree in medical office administration. She enjoys traveling, shopping, spending time with her friends and attending concerts.
Violetta | Front Office
Violetta has been one of our Dental Administration coordinators for the past 15 years. She handles insurance, billing, account management, scheduling, treatment plans and many of the other duties that go with helping run a busy dental practice. Violetta is a graduate of WVA Career College. A Certified Expanded Function dental assistant by training, Violetta brings this special skill when communicating with our patients about their treatments. In her free time Violetta enjoys spending time with her husband, Scott, her children Alisha and Gregory and her dog, Diamond.
